Square Enix game director Naoki Yoshida has revealed that a version of Final Fantasy XIV is in development for the PS5.
Yoshida surprised fans of the franchise in London at the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Gathering event, where those in attendance were treated to a raffle concluding with the giveaway of a signed PS4 console handed over by the director himself.
“While the top prize this year was the Final Fantasy XIV PlayStation 4, next year I’m hoping it will be a PlayStation 5,” Yoshida said, as quoted by Trusted Reviews.
“The rest of the team are hard at work on the PlayStation 5 version of Final Fantasy XIV, aiming to make it a reality for fans around the world.”
The MMORPG was originally developed for PC, Mac, and PS3. It was then launched on PS4 shortly after the console’s release.
A version of the game is also expected to be released on Xbox, though there has been no official confirmation as yet.
