The spin-off card game set in the acclaimed Witcher universe has joined the Switch’s vast library, seemingly out of the blue… Anybody up for a round of Gwent?
Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock for these last five years or are just oblivious to the trends of the gaming world, you likely – no more accurately must have – at least heard about one of the biggest names in the gaming community to date – The Witcher.
But even if you weren’t purposely avoiding mention of this ginormously intricate franchise, news of the card-based side game and its port to the Switch might have slipped under your radar. Luckily for those few still unaware, now’s the time to shed some light on what Thronebreaker is, and why CD Projekt Red want you to play it!?
So, here’s a piece by them – as quoted from the official read-out on the Nintendo Eshop’s purchase page and hopefully it alone will incentivize you to want to play this hidden gem:
“Thronebreaker is a single-player role-playing game set in the world of The Witcher that combines narrative-driven exploration with unique puzzles and card battle mechanics.
“Crafted by the developers responsible for some of the most iconic moments in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, the game spins a truly regal tale of Meve, a war-veteran and queen of two Northern Realms — Lyria and Rivia. Facing an imminent Nilfgaardian invasion, Meve is forced to once again enter the warpath and set out on a dark journey of destruction and revenge.”
The game initially launched in October 2018 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows. Now it’s on the Switch… Be sure to pick it up!
